Model: Heron 9.2m (30ft. 2in. Reach)
Designed to meet the specific needs of those involved in waterway maintenance.
The new Heron has a nominal reach of around 9.20 metres, and a particular feature of this machine is its reduced weight. This is an important factor if cutter stability is to be maintained, and to ensure that POWER '98 and tractor gross loading regulations are complied with. The heron features a telescopic second arm for extra reach and stability, which incorporates Bomford's well proven wear pads, that can be adjusted from the outside. It is fitted with the Bomford Pro Cut flail head, the cowl of which is manufactured from high tensile steel for durability and has a spiral rotorshaft that can be fitted with a variety of flails. The rotor is powered by a piston drive hydraulic pump developing 72 h.p. and a load sensing secondary pump powers the remaining hydraulic circuits. The hydraulic system is powered by a 2.8 ratio cast gearbox driven by a 1000rpm PTO. The hydraulic system is served by a 250 litre hydraulic oil tank that is fitted with an oil-cooler to ensure optimum operation in all conditions. All the machine functions are controlled using a Digital Control Unit (DCU). This provides fully proportional joystick control over the arm lift, reach and head-angle. The slew and telescopic functions are controlled using finger-tip buttons. Functions such as rotor stop/start, head float, etc. are mounted on a separate unit. The Heron is simply fitted to the tractor using a subframe. When not required, the Heron can be quickly dismounted at the Kingpost, leaving the subframe in place and a jacking system is fitted under the Kingpost to simplify this task. Likewise all the hydraulic connections are also disconnected at this point.
