Self-propelled Verti-Mix SF demo tour proves the benefits of a purpose built vehicle |
|
The first Strautmann self-propelled Verti-Mix into Ireland – an 11 cu.m capacity SF1100 - recently went on an extensive fact finding demo tour to establish performance capabilities and the economic benefits compared to a tractor trailed diet feeders. Here’s a selection of the most interesting comments from the farms we visited: “The milling head leaves a remarkably clean clamp face – and the head also loads in round bales of hay, straw and silage - as well as the rations. The pit floor is left clean too as the head is able to load at ground level.” “I was surprised how much easier it was to access our narrow passages with difficult entries compared to my trailed feeder. We parked the two units side-by-side and saw that the overall length is greatly reduced – as is the width.” “We have two out-farms as well as the home farm and have been sending out two men for three quarters of a day with tractor/feeder and loader to feed the cattle. This self-propelled machine would substantially reduce our labour costs.” “The compact body is ideal for feeding several loads of split rations. Loading is very quick and the weighing is very accurate.” “I normally change my tractor and diet feeder every 3-4 years but I can see this self-propelled feeder is very well made and so I would obviously expect to keep it very much longer”. |
The 6 model range has capacities from 11 to 20 cu.m – all with optional four wheel steering and 4-wheel drive. Powered by a John Deere 186hp 6 cylinder engine, the hydrostatic drive provides road speeds up to 40kmh with air cushion suspension providing a smooth ride.
